Alfred de VIGNY. L.A.S., March 21, 1850, to Charles FOURNIER - Lot 205
Alfred de VIGNY. L.A.S., March 21, 1850, to Charles FOURNIER; 3 pages in-8. Beautiful letter to a young poet. "No, no, she's not dead, the poor madwoman of the house, only very sad. She's dictating some beautiful verses to you, which strike a chord in the heart of one of your friends. What things they veil, but what delicious dreams they hide. Write them down, what better thing can you do? Isn't this a divine consolation for us dreamers, and don't we then experience that sweet repose of the young mother delivered from the weight of her child and contemplating him with a smile?" He would be happy to see him when he came to Paris: "I'll take you to lunch and chat in the streets. We'll read your dreams, and if you like, we'll dream and walk like the sleepwalkers we are. In his letter and verses, he guesses "many secret afflictions and also dreams that will turn into beautiful Poetry and take wings when you want them to, wings of a thousand colors with blue and black eyes" Correspondance, t. VII, 50-42. An envelope to the same author (1843) is enclosed.
