IMPERIAL PORCELAIN MANUFACTORY OF SAINT PETERSBURG, AFTER AUGUST SPIESS. A large bust of Empress Catherine II of Russia (1729–1796) in partially glazed white porcelain, depicting the sovereign wearing a fur collar and the sash of the Order of St. Andrew of Russia; her hair, tied at the back of her head, falls in braids over her shoulders; she wears a laurel wreath and a kokoshnik. This bust rests on a square pedestal, which in turn is mounted on a circular, stepped porcelain plinth. On the reverse, a green mark bearing the cipher of Alexander II under a crown. Work of the Imperial Porcelain Manufactory of Saint Petersburg, reign of Emperor Alexander II (1855–1881). Height: 35 cm. Base diameter: 14.5 cm. (Repainted, restorations on the reverse, and presence of a ground-off mark). Additional fees of 5.5% payable by the buyer for VAT on temporary importation.
