GAMELIN Jacques (Carcassonne 1738 - id. ; 1803) Gobryas presents his daughter to Cyrus (Xenophon, The Cyropaedia; Book V) After offering Cyrus gold and silver vases filled with gold coins, Gobryas presents him with his daughter, who was extraordinarily beautiful. Cyrus gives these gifts to his daughter to increase her dowry. Gouache in blue monochrome with white highlights and gum arabic on graphite line; pen and black ink. Blue washed paper. Framed in pen and ink. Glued to cardboard. Signed lower right in pen and brown ink Gamelin inv. On the reverse, inscribed by the artist. H. 25.3 - L 48 cm Provenance: Former A.
