Piotr Nikolaïevitch KRASSNOFF (1869-1947), general. L.A.S. to Denis Roche, dated October 30, 1933, Santeny par Villecresnes. 3 pages in-4°, written in French. Important letter in which General Krassnoff, in sustained French, informs Denis Roche of his intention to take part in an anti-Bolshevik literature competition, and asks if he would be willing to translate his novel. Provenance Denis Roche (1868-1951), French writer and translator versed in Russian culture. He traveled to Russia in 1898, where he met Leo Tolstoy, Anton Chekhov and Ilya Repin. He translated the works of N. Leskov, I. Tourguéniev, A. Tchékhov, I. Chmeliev, A. Remizov and others. He has worked with the magazine Starye Gody and was instrumental in bringing the young Vladimir Nabokov to France.
