French school, circa 1700. Portrait of a gentleman. Oval miniature on ivory*. On the back, an illegible handwritten note and the date 1710. H. 2.5 cm. the miniature. Probably intended to adorn a portrait box or Pend-à-col. Later period frame with knotted ribbon. *Ivory specimen of Elephantidae spp (I/A) pre-Convention, prior to July 1, 1947 and therefore compliant with EC Regulation 338/97 of 09/12/1996 art.2-Wmc, and prior to July 1, 1975 and therefore compliant with the French decrees of May 4, 2017 and January 2022. To leave the European Union, a CITES re-export permit is required.
