Rare copy of the first Russian translation by Alexander Andreyevich Petrov (1760- 1793) of this fundamental Hindu text, based on the first English translation by the Orientalist Charles Wilkins in 1784, printed by N. Novikov in Moscow in 1788. Dedication by the translator to Count Piotr D. Doubliakov, (...) . The work is preceded by an introductory letter from Warren Hastings to the President of the Smith India Company, dated October 4, 1784 in Banaris (27 pages), followed by an introduction by the English translator (9 pages).
