Georges ANNENKOV (1889-1974) Typescript of Boris Pasternak's - Lot 160
Georges ANNENKOV (1889-1974) Typescript of Boris Pasternak's literary portrait. 17 pages in French with handwritten corrections in blue ink, describing the artistic and literary context before the revolution, then containing a long passage on Vladimir Nabokov, alluding to J.-P. Sartre's criticism. Annenkov says that he designed the sets for two of Nabokov's Russian-language plays performed in Paris in 1939, before the war interrupted the performances. Nabokov is said to have come back to him later to ask him to illustrate the first version of Lolita, which took place in Paris, and to recommend him to J.-L. Barrault (a renowned stage director). Today, Nabokov, for whom I still have very friendly feelings, fortunately for him, no longer needs my recommendations.
