Henri Leo and Botta. HISTORY OF ITALY from the earliest times to the present day. Translated from the German and expanded with notes covering the period from the mid-16th century onward by M. Douchez. Paris, Delahays, 1856, 3 volumes, large 8vo (18x27 cm), beautiful publisher’s binding, full dark green sheepskin, spine with raised bands accented by a gilt frieze, gilt tools in the panels outlined with gilt fillets and dots. The covers are cold-stamped with a large plate surrounded by a gold fillet. Marbled edges. 789, 588, 562 pages with a fold-out color map. Text printed in two columns. Corners slightly rubbed; black marks in the margins of the first 30 pages of the third volume (appearing to be ink). Slight foxing on one or two quires. At the end of the third volume, there is a comprehensive general and analytical table of contents.
