Truong TAN (Born 1963) - Lot 151
Truong TAN (Born 1963) Untitled. Mixed media on silver background, on panel. 24.5 x 20 cm Provenance : - Galerie Les Singuliers, Paris - Léon-Lef Forster Collection Truong Tan graduated from the Beaux-Arts in Hanoi in 1989, and began painting in a country undergoing reconstruction after the Indochina conflict. Confronted with the many prohibitions of the regime, he developed a committed creative process, proposing a vision of love that is both violent and hopeful. The affirmation of his homosexuality prompted him to move to France, where he could exhibit more freely. His work explores notions of identity, culture and memory, drawing on both traditional Asian art and the great European currents of the 20th century. The artist stages emaciated, depulped, often faceless bodies, accompanied by obsessively repeated motifs and haiku-like words. Truong Tan's exhibitions frequently take the form of vast immersive installations. Visitors are invited to plunge into a universe where works cover walls by the dozen, from floor to ceiling. His works have been included in prestigious museum collections, including those of the Singapore Art Museum, the Queensland Art Gallery and the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum. His career has also been marked by major international exhibitions, such as the one presented at the Guggenheim Museum in 2013, offering a rereading of contemporary Vietnamese art.
