Jean-Baptiste CARPEAUX (1827-1875) The Constitution, for the "Projet de monument à Dom Pedro", 1864 Bronze proof with shaded red-brown patina. Signed "J-Bte Carpeaux" Posthumous casting, circa 1960. Bears the founder's stamp "CIRE PERDUE C VALSUANI" and monogrammed "A.T" for Antoine Tamburro. Height: 21.3 x 11.5 x 9.5 cm This is a bronze proof of one of the allegorical figures depicting the Constitution. This figure was part of a monument to Dom Pedro I, Emperor of Brazil and King of Portugal. In 1865, Carpeaux took part in a competition organized by the city of Lisbon. His project was never selected. A certificate from the Univers du Bronze gallery will be given to the purchaser.
